Choosing Carpet Styles: Twist, Loop and Pattern
Compare twist, loop and patterned carpets for your home. Explore texture, colour and room suitability with our family-run Celbridge showroom.
Discuss your projectChoose around your room
A favourite style is personal.
Rather than declaring one carpet the most popular, begin with the room you are creating. A quiet bedroom, a busy landing and a living room each ask something different of the floor.
Bring photographs of the space, a paint reference and any fabrics you are keeping. Compare carpet samples beside them in similar light. Colour is part of the choice; the surface texture can change the impression just as much.
Three starting points
Twist, loop or pattern?
Twist
Twist carpets use twisted yarn in a cut-pile surface. Plain, flecked and heathered looks offer different ways to soften or add variation to a room.
Loop
Loop construction leaves the yarn in loops, creating a level or textured surface. Mention pets when comparing options, because claws can catch loops; the exact construction needs to suit your household.
Pattern
Stripes and herringbone can give stairs or a room a stronger visual direction. Consider the repeat, the scale and how the design meets doors, borders and turning steps.
From preference to shortlist
Check suitability before deciding.
Ask whether the chosen carpet is suitable for the room, how it should be cleaned and which underlay it requires. For stairs, suitability for stair use matters more than choosing a style by appearance alone.
